24 Hour Filmmaking Marathon Print E-mail
Mormon Cartoons

There is an LDS Film Festival held in Orem UT 9 years running. I wrangled my cousin and his friend into entering the 24 hour film competition. We were going to do an animated short and had high hopes. I wrote and boarded a story about Family Home Evening and FTP'ed it to my cousin in UT. He and his pal began animating immediately while I finished the storyboard. We started off strong but by 4am it seemed apparent the we were not going to finish so we called it off. Around 8 am I figured out a way to use the existing footage and make an entirely new film. I cobbled together all the animation my cousin and his friend did on the Beelzebub character, threw a sound track on it and had it done by 9am. Sadly (after being up for 24 hours) my cousin had to leave for work. I quickly called everyone I knew in UT to see if they could burn the film to DVD and turn it in for us but no luck. Maybe next year.

The criteria was 3 min or less, theme is Charity, the object to use in the film is a rock, and the dialogue line is "I'm the one who...".

Here is the film:

Thanks Brian and Luke! Kudos for all the great animation you did.

Here's the original Idea. I know, too ambitious for 24 hours. Click on the blue arrows to see the next slide.

Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial Print E-mail
Blog

We went up to the birthplace of Joseph Smith the prophet on his birthday this year. It's a 4 hour drive but well worth it. The grounds were covered in snow and everything was peaceful. There was an excellent Nativity Story art exhibit there featuring the works of Simon Dewey. I took a few shots of the grounds.

The monument of solid granite stands 38 1/2 feet high and has James 1:5 carved into the base.

The site of the the home Joseph was born in.

The actual doorstep.

We watched the Joseph Smith Movie then the Missionary couple who were running the place had made three kinds of birthday cake to share with the visitors. It was a great trip. We ate at Friendlies afterwards.

Blog

I took the kids to see this film when it came out. It's one of our favorites. I love the wise men in this.
